A catalogue raisonné lists the entire output of an artist, and provides an inventory that is as complete as possible. Such catalogues are compiled either chronologically or thematically. In order to present our work on George Desvallières in a scientific manner, we have therefore decided to adopt a chronological order that enables the reader to follow the events of his life and his development as an artist.
After 20 years of research, 2 675 artworks are listed in the catalogue raisonné George Desvallières, published by Somogy Editions. It will be available in January 2016 for subscribers. The catalog will be on sale in bookstores and online in late February 2016, before the retrospective of the painter at the Petit Palais in Paris from March 15 to July 17 2016.
In the first volume, a detailed presentation of the artist's life introduces the inventory of the works referenced in volumes II and III. The catalogue is directed by Catherine Ambroselli, author of several works on George Desvallières.
George Desvallières : catalogue raisonné de l'œuvre complet was nominated for the 16th edition of the prize SNA Book of Art 2016. The entire selection 2016 is visible on their website www.SNA-FRANCE.COM as well as at the bookshop of the Louvre.
On 16 November 2016, at the formal sitting of the Académie des beaux-arts, the Paul Marmottan Prize was awarded to George Desvallières, l'œil, le cœur, l'esprit, catalogue raisonné de l'œuvre complet. Ce retour de George Desvallières sous la Coupole représente un grand moment d'émotion et de reconnaissance pour celui qui y fut élu en 1930 et président en 1940 !
